The Second Half
At the beginning of the year, I created a dream board for 2021. I took a couple of days to pray, seek God, read His Word, and journal. Essentially, I took time to dream about 2021 with God.
On my board, I included who I wanted to be in 2021. Ultimately, I wanted my character to transform into a wise, peaceful and joyful Daughter of God, Wife, Mother, Sister and Friend. I also included the dreams and goals I had for my family/relationships, health, finances, work, and faith. My strategy to achieving my goals was to spend more time with God, rest in HIM, heal with Him and slow down.
I kept a picture with me of a sailboat as a reminder of the time I would take to slow down and get into the boat with God. I planned to take more time to set sail with Jesus, to hear Him guide me on the right paths, to restore my union with Him, with myself, and with others. I wanted to sense the breeze of the Holy Spirit and be propelled by God, like the sails of a sailboat are filled by the wind.
However, looking back at the first half of the year, I haven’t stepped into the “sailboat” with Jesus as much as I have hoped. Instead, I’ve been driving my own speed boat, steering my own path at a fast pace in the opposite direction. The other day I looked at my dream board and saw the words “Second Half” with a picture of a basketball. I thought to myself, it is now June, and the second half of 2021 is around the corner. God must have known I would flop in the first half of 2021 and that I needed this picture to remind myself it’s not too late. Also, if I stay in the powerboat for the rest of 2021, I will soon run out of gas and be on a different path than what God and I originally dreamed for 2021.
So, how will you get through the Second half of 2021? When you take a look back at the first half, how has the year shaped up for you so far? Games are never won or lost in the first half. No matter how you started, how you finish is up to you.
I encourage you to create margin in your schedule for God; to seek him first, praise him, talk to him, ask him, listen to him, thank him and follow him. Get into the sailboat and not the powerboat; finish the year with the Holy Spirit leading you. Being propelled by God will help you not drift or be blown by the wind. Jesus is your anchor, the Holy Spirit fills your sails, and God is your Captain. Solitude with God in the sailboat can change the trajectory of your year.
Do you believe that 2021 will be the best year yet? Don’t lose vision, hope, or joy! Finish strong through Christ. Set sail with Jesus and finish strong. It’s never too late.
“The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.” Isaiah 58:11 (NIV)
